‘Logistics Day’ at Andreas Schmid Group
Gersthofen, April 18, 2024. As part of the 17th ‘Logistics Day’, the Andreas Schmid Group opened its doors to a group of 60 business students today. The students, who specialise in logistics and sustainability, were given an insight into the company’s workflows and processes.
The Logistics Day was initiated in 2008 by the German Logistics Association (BVL) and takes place every year in April. At 129 events organised by 151 companies, organisations and institutes, over 2,650 participants were able to take a look behind the scenes of Germany’s third-largest economic sector. The Andreas Schmid Group also had plenty on offer at its headquarters in Gersthofen. The event began with an introduction by CEO Alessandro Cacciola about the Andreas Schmid Group and how the company applies modern management methods in practice. The students then had the opportunity to visit three different logistics halls and experience everyday life in the areas of contract logistics and freight forwarding at first hand.
In one warehouse, they were shown how the use of scanners enables paperless order picking – an important step towards sustainability and efficiency. In another warehouse, the students were also shown how the Andreas Schmid Group responds to the individual logistics requirements of its customers and how customised solutions are implemented. The participants were able to observe the busy operations live in the cross-dock hall: This is where goods are received, sorted and distributed to the various routes for onward transport.
The Logistics Day offered the students a valuable opportunity to experience the theoretical content of their degree programme in the real world of logistics.
