Andreas Schmid Group focuses on internationalization for increased resilience
Gersthofen, April 26th, 2023. With the opening of a new location in Bratislava, Slovakia, the Andreas Schmid Group now has its own capacities in five countries. By doing so, the logistics service provider not only addresses the shortage of personnel and space in Germany, but also creates new opportunities for resilient glocalization for its customers.
Continuous internationalization of the corporate group
To meet the demand for storage space and personnel, the Andreas Schmid Group is expanding its capacities abroad. The company now has a total of seven foreign locations in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. Additional locations are being planned. Customers can therefore benefit from the availability and services of transport and storage facilities abroad, while maintaining the highest quality standards. In addition, it enables companies with locations in Eastern Europe to stabilize their supply chains with on-site storage facilities.
“The Corona pandemic has led to a rethink when it comes to the resilience of supply chains. With our strong international network, which we are increasingly underpinning with our own resources in Central and Eastern Europe, we are creating the basis for what is now called “glocalization,” explains Alessandro Cacciola, CEO of the Andreas Schmid Group. “Global supply chains and transport routes should be combined with local storage and distribution to ensure efficient and sustainable supply of goods.”
The expansion of locations also creates new opportunities for shorter and more direct transport routes and thus a more sustainable supply chain.
Sustained growth enables investment in logistics space
In 2022, the Andreas Schmid Group was able to increase its revenue by 12% to €185 million compared to the previous year. This success sets the course for further growth of the corporate group, not only abroad but also in southern Germany. An extension of the Europe Terminal at the headquarters in Gersthofen near Augsburg is planned for 2024. At the same time, further space options have been created that enable future growth. For example, an additional area was recently acquired in the Donau-Ries district, which will be available for development in the coming years.
