Hopp, Schwiiz!

Gersthofen, 26 October 2023. On 1 October 2023, Andreas Schmid changed its general cargo partner in Switzerland. The cooperation with Maier Spedition GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the long-established Swiss company Planzer Holding AG, will enable the company to meet growing export and import volumes, even faster delivery times and increasing sustainability requirements.

For many years, Switzerland has been one of the most important relations for the Andreas Schmid Group in Europe. The change to partner Maier Spedition now opens up further opportunities for the constantly growing volume of shipments. The Andreas Schmid Group has been operating a daily groupage line from Gersthofen to Singen since October 2023. At the same time, customs data is transmitted digitally. From there, border customs clearance takes place and Meier Spedition delivers most of the consignments to Switzerland on the same day.

Sustainable delivery by rail

For shipments that go beyond Maier Spedition’s catchment area, the company uses Planzer’s high-performance rail network. In addition to the CO2 savings that this delivery method brings, it is also particularly fast. While trucks are not allowed to drive on Swiss motorways at night, shipments by rail can be easily distributed throughout the country and overnight to Planzer’s 13 rail centres.
