Planned toll increase in Germany as of 01.12.2023
A change in the law is to lead to a further increase in the HGV toll from December 2023. The German government plans to link the HGV toll to the level of CO2 emissions in the future. The surcharge varies depending on the emission class, weight, pollutant class and number of axles of the truck.
From December 2023, the toll rate is to be made up of four components: Infrastructure costs, air pollution, noise pollution and CO2 emissions. For the time being, trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes are affected by the change. From 01.07.2024, the law is to be extended to trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes.
Emission-free vehicles are exempt from the toll adjustment until the end of 2025, with the aim of accelerating the traffic turnaround. Subsequently, these vehicles are to be charged 25% of the rate.
These changes require an adjustment of the Andreas Schmid Group’s toll table. If you have any questions about what this means specifically for your business, please feel free to contact your personal contact.
